Chaplain Nick Arroyo and his team of 20 volunteers serve in two facilities in the San Bernardino region of Southern California.
The High Desert Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center, located in Apple Valley, California, is a juvenile detention center with a capacity of 200 juvenile offenders. It is part of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and serves as a secure facility for the detention and assessment of juvenile offenders.
At the High Desert facility we see approximately 25 youth per week for Bible study and give out approximately 5 Bibles a month. Bible study is conducted on Thursday evenings from 7-8 pm. a
The Central Valley Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center (CVJDAC) is located in the central part of the city of San Bernardino and has a rated capacity of 260. Bible study is conducted on Thursday evenings from 7-8 pm and Sunday morning church service is at 8-9 am .
The ministry sees approximately 400 youth and distributes around 30 Bibles per month total at both facilities. This year we’ve baptized 2 youth at Central Valley. Each year we provide a holiday social at Christmas and Easter for the youth at both facilities, serving approximately 200 youth and 50 volunteer guests per social.
